Seniors

I came into office as a political outsider who believes in common sense solutions to our most pressing issues and that means standing up against my own party when it is for the betterment of Central New York and our working families. That is why I signed Discharge Petition #16 and cosponsored the Social Security Fairness Act (H.R. 82). For over four decades, our nation’s police officers, firefighters, teachers, and many others have been negatively impacted by the WEP and GPO. They paid into this system for their entire lives—they must not be penalized for doing the right thing. We owe it to our constituents to place the Social Security Fairness Act on the President’s desk, and this Discharge Petition will give us an opportunity to do so before the end of this year.

Social Security has been a vital support system for retirement security and disability pay for millions of Americans over generations. Throughout our working lives, we contribute to this system so that it is available when needed. I am a steadfast supporter of America’s seniors, and have stood up for Social Security and Medicare during my time in Congress. Especially for seniors and those living on a fixed income, it is vital that our representatives understand the harmful impact of inflation on the cost of living.

I proudly cosponsored the bipartisan SSI Savings Penalty Elimination Act (H.R.5408), which raises resource limits for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) eligibility, benefiting aged, blind, or disabled individuals with limited income. Additionally, I have cosponsored the Improving Seniors Timely Access to Care Act (H.R.8702), which simplifies the prior authorization process under Medicare Advantage to ensure seniors can access necessary care promptly.

As the 118th Congress continues, I will remain dedicated to safeguarding Social Security and providing resources to support our community.
