Rep. Williams Letter To Department of Homeland Security: Transparency Required, NYC Exporting Migrant Crisis To CNY

Rep. Brandon Williams sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas.

Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Brandon Williams (NY-22), sent a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas regarding the migrant crisis in New York State and the proposed relocations into Central New York.

Rep. Williams was joined by Member’s of the NY Congressional Delegation in signing onto the letter, including House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (NY-21), Rep. Anthony D’Esposito (NY-04), and Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (NY-11):

“We are gravely concerned that recent decisions made by New York State government officials to transport illegal migrants into our communities without the consent or coordination of local government will have profound consequences for our region,” Congressman Brandon Williams wrote. “We believe that New York City Mayor Eric Adams and New York Governor Kathy Hochul are doing an egregious disservice to their offices and to the people of New York, particularly to the people of Upstate New York, by dictating mandates to our local governments to accept illegal migrants into our communities.”

The letter lists out questions, urging a response within 30 days:
  • What is the total number of illegal aliens that have arrived in New York since January 20, 2021?
  • What is the total number of immigration court dates assigned to these aliens?
  • Which courts are their cases being heard in?
  • What are the dates that their cases are being heard?
  • How many immigration hearings for these recent arrivals have occurred in New York
    since January 20, 2021?
  • At how many of these hearings did the illegal alien fail to appear?
  • How many ICE arrests and removals have there been in New York since January 20,
    2021?

Rep. Williams made clear that he will do everything in his power to hold migrants to meaningful immigration standards and due process, and assess the federal government’s ability to ensure that these migrants will be subject to sensible immigration procedures.
