Rep. Williams: Rome Labs Appropriation Funding PASSED In Committee

Congressman Williams highlighted Rome Air Force Lab's leadership in quantum science, research, and development at a Congressional hearing on Advancing American Leadership in Quantum Technology.

Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Brandon Williams (NY-22), announced that the House Committee on Appropriations passed out of committee the Fiscal Year 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), including major funding for NY-22, through Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL) in Rome, NY.

This includes FY2024 program increases for AFRL through FY2024 funding requests submitted to Rep. Williams by AFRL Rome on behalf of CNY Defense Alliance:
  • JADC2 Future Flag Operational Experimentation Testbed:
    • FY2024 NDAA: $25 million ($15M more than requested by AFRL stakeholders)

  • Quantum research at AFRL: A $72 million increase in program funding, strengthening AFRL's leadership in Quantum technology. This increase includes:
    • $10 million for photonic chips,
    • $15 million for trapped ions,
    • $20 million for a quantum computing facility,
    • and $10 million for quantum cryptography.
“This past week, the House Committee on Appropriations passed the FY24 NDAA by a vote of 58-1. This bipartisan bill includes key funding requests from my Congressional office  to support the excellent work of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in Rome. The research at AFRL is essential to counter the growing threat from China, and this funding is critical to families and businesses in our home district. The House Appropriations request for AFRL for FY24 is $289,076,000—an increase of over $107,000,000 (a 58% increase) from the President’s FY2024 request,” said Congressman Brandon Williams. “I will continue to monitor this important federal funding for Central New York and the Mohawk Valley and will keep our community updated as it moves it’s way through the approval process.”
