Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Brandon Williams’ (NY-22) amendment to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization PASSED the U.S. House of Representatives with broad bipartisan support. In Rep. Williams’ amendment, the Administrator of the FAA is required to initiate a study of our ground safety systems (“surface surveillance systems”) and ensures the FAA will not gamble with passenger safety.
Rep. Williams’ amendment requires the FAA to consult with stakeholders including Federal regulators, safety experts, and union representatives prior to altering or changing airports’ ground safety systems. “To protect your family and vacation plans, I put forward an amendment to ensure that safety comes first—today's passage of my amendment makes that mission possible. As post-COVID travel rises, our ground safety systems must be fully operational—avoiding collisions at our busy airports and avoiding accidents and delays,” said Congressman Brandon Williams. “Air safety goes beyond political partisanship and is the core of the FAA’s mission: to provide the safest and most efficient civilian air transportation system in the world.” |
