Rep. Williams on PASSAGE of Pan Am Flight 103 Bill

“I continue to pursue any and all avenues for justice and healing from this tragedy that affected the Syracuse community so deeply. Of the surviving victims, most at an advanced age and incapable of traveling for court proceedings, this bipartisan bill gives them a voice and the ability to confront the man responsible for their suffering,” said Congressman Brandon Williams.

WASHINGTON — Yesterday, Congressman Brandon Williams (NY-22) voted to pass the Meaningful Access to Court Proceedings for Victims of Pan Am Flight 103 Act (S.3250) and it is now on its way to the President's desk where it will be signed into law. This bill requires federal courts to make remote access to certain criminal court proceedings available for victims of the bombing of Pan American Flight 103 over Lockerbie, Scotland, on December 21, 1988.

35 Syracuse University students who spent the semester studying abroad, died in the attack.

With the passage of this bill, federal courts must make remote access available to the proceedings in the criminal case against Abu Agila Mohammed Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi and against any co-conspirator subsequently charged and prosecuted in federal court for crimes related to the bombing of Pan American Flight 103. Al-Marimi's pre-trial proceedings are already taking place.
