Rep. Williams Calls Electrification of School Buses “Reckless” and “Harmful” to CNY Taxpayers

“This forced mandate by New York State is irresponsible, reckless, and harmful to CNY taxpayers. Neither the battery technology, electrical infrastructure, supply chain, nor operational reliability of electric buses is mature enough to risk our children’s safety,” said Congressman Williams

WASHINGTON — Today, Congressman Brandon Williams (NY-22) commented on reports of ‘sticker shock’ from schools who worry about the exorbitant expenses of New York’s mandated transition to electric buses. NYSERDA claims that most current school bus routes are short enough to be effectively electrified, but admits that districts with longer routes, hillier terrain, and colder weather “present challenges.”

“The enormously expensive e-bus mandate is not even half of the total cost. Rural communities would have to spend millions of taxpayer money to increase the electric power service to their communities just to charge these buses.
