Washington,
April 2, 2024
“I am grateful to Mayor Walsh, Auditor Marion, and the Common Council for speaking out in support of this vital program. Their dedication to our communities has remained steadfast, even as Congress has delayed action on this important priority. I anticipate that the ACP Extension Act will pass when it reaches the House floor, and I’m proud to join Representatives across New York as a cosponsor of it,” said Congressman Williams.
WASHINGTON — On Monday, Congressman Brandon Williams (NY-22) responded to a letter from Mayor Ben Walsh, Common Council President Helen Hudson, and City Auditor Alexander Marion which urged congressional action to protect the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP). The full letter can be accessed here. Congressman Williams has joined Representatives across New York and nationwide as a cosponsor of H.R. 6929, the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) Extension Act. This legislation would allocate $7,000,000,000 to replenish funding for the ACP through the end of 2024. “As the ACP winds down in the absence of restored funding, families in Syracuse and across New York face rising costs. If Congress does not step in to replenish the ACP’s funding, our most vulnerable communities will be the most heavily-impacted,” the letter reads. “Among other things, the ACP provides discounts toward broadband plans and device purchases for eligible households, and it protects consumers’ access to broadband services regardless of prior debt or credit status.” “I am grateful to Mayor Walsh, Auditor Marion, and the Common Council for speaking out in support of this vital program. Their dedication to our communities has remained steadfast, even as Congress has delayed action on this important priority. I anticipate that the ACP Extension Act will pass when it reaches the House floor, and I’m proud to join Representatives across New York as a cosponsor of it,” said Congressman Williams.
