Rep. Williams Announces $100 Million to Support the Mohawk River and Tributaries

“We are working across the aisle and across New York to fight for our great state’s environment, and for everyone who calls New York home. We owe it to the next generation to steward our resources well, and this funding will help local leaders to do just that. I’m thankful to Congresswoman Stefanik and Congressman Tonko for joining me to advance this shared priority.”

MOHAWK VALLEY — Today, Congressman Brandon Williams (NY-22) announced that $100,000,000 to support the Mohawk River and its tributaries was included in the Water Resources Development Act of 2024, which passed on the House Floor with a bipartisan majority last night.

The allocation will go towards the construction and maintenance of water and wastewater infrastructure, such as stormwater management, surface water resource protection, and environmental restoration efforts.

Impacted counties are Madison, Oneida, Albany, Delaware, Fulton, Greene, Hamilton, Herkimer, Lewis, Montgomery, Otsego, Saratoga, Schoharie, and Schenectady.

Rep. Williams advocated for this funding with Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY-21) and Rep. Paul Tonko (NY-20).

“Following my advocacy, I’m proud to announce I helped secure $100 million for water and wastewater infrastructure for the Mohawk River and its tributaries in Upstate New York. These funds will go towards stormwater management, surface water resource protection, environmental restoration, and more on the Mohawk River and its tributaries, including in Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Lewis, Montgomery, Otsego, and Schoharie counties in NY-21,” said Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.

“New York’s 20th District is situated at the confluence of the mighty Hudson and Mohawk Rivers, and the eastern terminus of the historic Erie Canalway,” Congressman Paul Tonko said. “These waterways powered our mills, carried goods from the coast to the rest of the nation, and enabled the growth of mill towns that remain today. With the advance of our environmental infrastructure provision, we are delivering critically needed measures to improve the Mohawk River’s health and infrastructure, address growing climate and ecological challenges, and more. I’m thrilled by the passage of WRDA and will continue working to ensure our historic waterways are protected and can be enjoyed by the generations that follow.”
