A Message from the State Department:
On April 22, 2023, the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum suspended its operations, and the Department of State ordered the departure of U.S. direct hire employees and eligible family members due to the continued threat of armed conflict in Sudan.

The Department of State is in communication with private U.S. citizens in the region about safety measures and other precautions. We recommend that U.S. citizens in Sudan carefully consider routes and the risks of travel, because roads may be crowded, exposed to combat operations, or have deteriorated infrastructure due to damage to bridges, roads, and facilities. All U.S. citizens should carefully monitor local and international media outlets for information about changing security conditions.

“Rep. Williams has instructed our District Office to be on high-alert for any Central New York and Mohawk Valley constituents that are in need of services during the ongoing armed conflict in Sudan,” said Taylor Weyeneth, communications director for Rep. Williams. “If any constituent who is currently abroad in Sudan is seeking assistance, please contact our Office immediately.”

Brandon Williams is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for New York’s 22nd Congressional District. Brandon is a naval veteran, having served as a Nuclear Submarine Officer, is an entrepreneur, and a devoted husband and father. He currently resides in Central New York with his wife of over 30 years and their dog Beatrice.
