Rep. Williams Applauds Legislative Director For Promotion To Captain In U.S. Army Reserve

Rep. Williams announced the promotion of his Legislative Director in the U.S. Army Reserve to the rank of Captain.

Washington, DC — Today, Congressman Brandon Williams (NY-22), announced that his Legislative Director, Ryan Sweeney, will be promoted to the rank of Captain in the U.S. Army Reserve on May 11, 2023. Ryan Sweeney has served as Legislative Director since the start of the Congressman’s term in January.

Ryan previously served as a Legislative Assistant in the House of Representatives. Ryan commissioned out of Georgetown University’s Army ROTC program in 2017 and currently serves as a military intelligence officer with the 3300th Strategic Intelligence Group, based at Fort Belvoir, VA. He grew up in Ossining, NY. He holds a BA in Political Science and an MPA from George Washington University.

Rep. Williams will be the officiating officer issuing the oath of office for Ryan.

Mr. Sweeney is a dedicated member of our armed services who serves our nation both in our Capitol and in uniform,” said Congressman Williams. “I am incredibly proud of Ryan’s accomplishments and appreciate his contributions to my office.”


Brandon Williams is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives for New York’s 22nd Congressional District. Brandon is a naval veteran, having served as a Nuclear Submarine Officer, is an entrepreneur, and a devoted husband and father. He currently resides in Central New York with his wife of over 30 years and their dog Beatrice.
