Town Hall: Rep. Williams on Ukraine, Russia, and China

Putin is a monster and must be stopped. I made clear my thoughts on the fight in Ukraine and I also drew parallels to the recent interest in the war by China and Iran to the early malign interests of the Nazis in the Spanish Civil War during the buildup to World War Two.

Much like how the Germans sent their powerful military technology to Spain to test out their military technology, we see China and Iran are inflicting pain and suffering in Ukraine to test their weaponry and offensive capabilities against our technologies.

We must remain vigilant and we must have resolve, but we must also remember it is significantly cheaper and more cost effective to deter a war rather than fight one.

Town Hall: Rep. Williams on Inflation, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid

Through no fault of their own, 63% of Americans are living paycheck-to-paycheck. The reckless government spending and printing these past three years have only hurt working Americans while inflating the wealth of those who own assets.

It is that same irresponsible and unsustainable economic policy that threatens the long-term health of our economy, your personal finances, and the sustainability of social security, medicare, and medicaid programs.

I have made it clear I will work with my colleagues to fight for the benefits you worked hard for and that I am in no conversation to cut your social security, medicare, or medicaid. But for the long-term health of these programs, and our wallets, it is imperative that we get inflation under control.

 Rep. Williams Hosts Roundtable Discussion On Fentanyl Crisis

On Tuesday morning, I gathered members of local law enforcement, non-profits, and county health officials to host a roundtable discussion on the fentanyl crisis poisoning our communities and children.

To put it in perspective, in the last decade alone, the rate of fentanyl overdoses across Onondaga County has increased by 4x and a report from just the past 30 days stated 7 people have died from overdoses in Oneida County because of drugs laced with fentanyl.

These are real people and, unfortunately, very real consequences exist when we turn a blind eye to border security which only enables the cartels, human smugglers, and drug traffickers in their crimes.

We have to act together, on both sides of the aisle, to take action against the flow of fentanyl into the United States through the open Southern Border.

Congressman Williams Visits the Syracuse Academy of Science.. Speaks with the 2nd Grade Class and Answers their Questions

I enjoyed sitting down and spending an hour this week with the young and bright students at the Syracuse Academy of Science. We had a great time reading and talking about science!

The success of the Syracuse Academy of Science in educating thousands of kids in our district should be applauded.

Congressman Williams Tours the Village of Hamilton, Hosts Community Leader Lunch, and Visits Hamilton's Community Memorial Hospital

On Thursday, I held a community leader lunch joined by local elected officials, members of Colgate University, local business owners, farmers, and residents of Hamilton to learn more about the needs of the community across southern Madison County.

Throughout the day we addressed the critical infrastructure investments that are desperately needed, such as in rural healthcare, and ways to build upon existing services and utilities such as through the Village of Hamilton's natural gas services.

Congressman Williams Hits at China on Talk of the Town

It's clear we cannot trust China. 

They view the United States as an impediment in their crusade against the West, and their recent provocations against the United States and Taiwan indicate they have no interest in negotiating. Their only interest is to undermine and dominate.

We are in conflict with China and we have been for decades. We're just now waking up to it.

We are almost one week away from the close of the annual Congressional Art Competition. High school students across the 22nd Congressional District are invited to submit their artwork to my office for a chance to compete and win a chance to hang your artwork in the United States Capitol!

About the competition:

"Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol."

This is an excellent opportunity for young artists in grades 9-12 to showcase their talents and be recognized at the national level for their creativity and vision. The winner from the competition in New York’s 22nd Congressional District will have their entry displayed at the U.S. Capitol for one year and is also invited to Washington, D.C. for a national reception to honor winning artists from across the Nation.

Entries must be delivered to my Utica or Syracuse District Office by Monday, April 24^th at 5:00PM.
