Congressman Williams Tours Rome Air Force Lab with U.S. Senator Hassan (D-NH)

The Air Force's Information Directorate at Rome Air Force Lab leads our nation's premiere scientific research focusing on command, control, communications, computers and intelligence (C4I) together with cyber technologies. 

It is here where the development of tools and tactics of the future are being developed to ensure the United States has a technological competitive edge for our military's needs.

I shared with Senator Hassan my belief that Rome Air Force Lab is where the next conflict will be won. A Manhattan Project sized investment is not always necessary to alter the balance of power between global superpowers, and Rome Air Force Lab is the perfect example of such investment. In WW2, small victories in innovation changed the course of the war to our great advantage. The development of radar detection for our early warning systems saved American lives, and the invention of the proximity fuse for anti-aircraft munitions made our weapons 5-10 times more lethal than those of the axis powers.

Innovating for victory is the winning message for Rome to continue growing as a center for research and technology. What we spend to research, test, and develop in Rome costs our adversaries multiples to defend against and outpace us. I thank the Senator for making the trip to visit and look forward to partnering together to increase funding and resources for the benefit of Rome.

Rep. Williams Visits Micron CHIPS Camp For Students In CNY.. Gives Q&A

I had the honor of kick starting Micron's Chip Camp tour around CNY by speaking to students at Liverpool Middle School and answering their questions about my service on submarines and in Congress.

It was impressive witnessing the energy and excitement from young students around STEM education through Micron’s inaugural CNY Chip Camp. Micron is inspiring the next generation of innovators and is preparing the workforce of the future right here in Central New York.

Congressman Williams Visits the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology.. Explores Ways to Provide STEM Education to Low-Income Students

I had a great time viewing the hands-on exhibitions and educational programs offered at the Museum of Science & Technology (MOST) in the heart of downtown Syracuse.

It's here at the MOST where Stephanie and I brought our own children to explore and develop their curiosity and love of science. Now, as a member of the House Science, Space, and Technology Committee, I look forward to helping the MOST deliver on their mission of providing informal science learning experiences that ignite curiosity, encourage discovery, and inspire investigation.

With its close proximity to the most impoverished neighborhoods in the 22nd district, and in our country, the MOST has a unique role in providing STEM education and skill training to low-income students in a state-designated disadvantaged community. The rehabilitation of the east side of the MOST would significantly expand the resources to bridge the inequality divide students face in the area while strengthening a cultural icon in the local economy.

Congressman Williams Meets with Mohawk Valley Businesses, Local Law Enforcement, and Elected Officials.. Tours MVHS's New Hospital, Nexus Center, and ADK Bank Center

This week, I sat down with local stakeholders, including elected officials and more than 20 small business owners, to discuss ways to promote economic growth and prosperity across the Mohawk Valley.

I had the pleasure of touring the newly opened Nexus arena in Utica, an amazing sports and events center, and the development of the Wynn Hospital that sits directly across the street.

I am committed to helping local businesses stay, grow, and thrive here with a vision that stretches across the I-90 corridor from Syracuse to Utica. These new facilities, in the heart of downtown, will increase the quality of life around the Mohawk Valley in ways not seen in years, while the broader economic benefits will bring about new local spending and business to the area.

This year, I am excited to announce that New York’s 22nd Congressional District will be participating in the annual Congressional Art Competition. 

About the competition:

"Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

Students submit entries to their representative’s office, and panels of district artists select the winning entries. Winners are recognized both in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning works are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol."

This is an excellent opportunity for young artists in grades 9-12 to showcase their talents and be recognized at the national level for their creativity and vision. The winner from the competition in New York’s 22nd Congressional District will have their entry displayed at the U.S. Capitol for one year and is also invited to Washington, D.C. for a national reception to honor winning artists from across the Nation.

Entries must be delivered to my Utica or Syracuse District Office by Monday, April 24^th at 5:00PM.
